Welcome to the next step in our journey of Positive Seizure Management. If you have yet to familiarize yourself with STEP ONE, or want a refresher, click here, I’ll wait. Take a deep, cleansing breath to prepare for action ahead. Bring along your journal and a good writing instrument, if you prefer the less techy way to manage your thoughts of the day.  The forecast is comfortable and sunny, so put on your happy face and take your next step.

When I began my journey, the first in Positive Seizure Management, I  meditated and reflected on the steps and footprints of our life journey and the journey with Epilepsy. Soon, I was enlightened with the updated words of a poem from 1936 written by Mary Stevenson, ‘Footprints in the Sand’. The words comforted me and also directed me to the next step in the journey of Positive Seizure Management. Below is the version that resonated with me for several days. Perhaps you will find value and comfort in the words of this poem:

Footprints in the Sand

Lord you said that once I decided to follow You,
We would walk side by side through life;
but when I needed You the most,
I saw only one set of footprints in the sand.

The Lord replied, “I love You and I would never leave You.
During your times of trial and suffering, when you see
only ones set of footprints, it was then that I carried You.”

This is a gentle curve in our journey, perhaps a new way of thinking – or paradigm shift for you. I encourage you to allow your mind to remain open to possibilities while you continue to read and keep your journal close by to jot down notes and personal reflections that occur in your mind as you read and learn about control & responsibility as they pertain to positive seizure management.

Who is in Control of your Life, your diagnosis, and the outcome of both? Perhaps this is the first you have encountered this question. Let’s dig deeper. Do you believe in a Source of Creation and Power more powerful than yourself? What do you call this Source? Do tenacious-positive-higher-poweryou refer to or envision this Source as masculine/feminine?  Take a moment and reflect on this. Journal your answer and all that comes up around these questions. Remember, you are safe here, there is no judgment.

During the first step of Positive Seizure Management, you learned Surrender and Acceptance. In this step, as you identify a Source of Higher Power and Creation outside of yourself, are you willing and ready to consider Surrendering your diagnosis and struggle to this Source? All this requires is willingness and honest communication between you and your Source. You share with your Source what you are willing to surrender when you are willing to surrender your struggles, and then you wait and listen for the still small voice of your Source that may come as a thought in your mind, a knowing in your heart, or a sign in the outer world. Patience and Persistence  are key here.  If you say you have not these, begin today to practice moment by moment to strengthen these “muscles”.

Who is Responsible for your Life, the daily tasks, and the outcome?  This is so important my friend. Take time and think on this. Journal the answers that come up for you. If nothing comes to mind, what do you tenacious-positive-seizure-managementwant to come to mind? Who do you want to be in charge of your life? A traveler of the journey of Positive Seizure Management enjoys a less troublesome journey when he/she takes personal responsibility for his/her own life and actions.  If you are one that is not familiar with being in charge of or responsible for your life, I will lovingly help you along the way. Just reach out in comment and I will answer to the best of my ability.

I encourage you to take a moment and write thoughts in your journal about what you have read today. Also, as you go about your days become aware of thoughts that may come to you regarding what you have read and write them down for further study. Growing is a process and will occur throughout your day. Positive Seizure Management is a journey of self-growth as well as seizure management.  I look forward to sharing the next step in our journey with you.

Let me know, in the comments below, how I may enrich your journey. Is there something I can help you better understand? Do you feel “stuck” on a step and want help? I won’t know until you boldly step forward in comment or email.
